2010 Sewing Reflections

2010 Sewing Reflections

Sew Mama Sew asked some questions on their blog and I thought it might be fun to share my thoughts about 2010 Sewing with you.
  • Looking back on the sewing scene of 2010, what trends stand out in your mind?  Bright, fun colors and lots of paisleys.  Oh, and let's not forget the animals.  Owls, they are still on the scene, along with birds.  Elephants are popping up everywhere too!  This is one of my favorite owl fabrics from Riley Blake from the Hooty Hoot Line!  It is called *Owl Roll Call*!  How cute is that!  You can find it at Fabrics I Love!

  • What were some of your favorite things? (Trends, fabric collections, patterns, blogs? Whatever you really loved.) Well I would be embarrassed to tell you how many sewing and craft blogs I have in my google reader.  Let's just say it could keep me busy for a while!  In fact, sometimes I just have to close my eyes and mark all as read!  But I love to read about new trends in sewing, get new ideas and fun tutorials for sewing.  And of course keep up with all the fabric designer's and what new fabrics and patterns are coming out.  Oh, and don't forget the giveaways!  Who doesn't love a great giveaway, especially if it involves fabric!!  One of my favorite blogs is Sew Mama Sew because they feature so many sewing tutorials.  Another one is Ruffles and Stuff by Disney.  Ruffles are  a huge trend this year and I foresee them carrying over into 2011.
Hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better!  I will continue this post later in the week.

When the Cats Away, the Mice will Play SALE!

I'm leaving early tomorrow morning (yeah, I should be in bed, but I'm a procrastinator big time!).  Anyway, I'm gonna be gone for 8 days to a sewing school.  I am so pumped!  My friends that don't sew, look at me like I'm crazy.  My family think I'm crazy.  But just to get together with others that truly share your passion is so much fun!  We stay up late oohing and aahing over things we made that day, and of course what school would be complete with buying fabric!  So, we ooh and ahh over that too!

So, in honor of my vacation, I'm having a sale in my shop www.fabricsilove.com.  All fabrics are 15% off.  That make some of them less than $6.00!  Orders will not begin processing/mailing until I return on the 27th.  See my shop announcement for more details.  Here are some of the fabrics on sale!

And there are lots more where those came from!  Buy them up so I'll have room for the new fabrics I will be buying!  See ya soon!  You can also purchase fabrics through my new site http://www.artfire.com/users/fabricsilove
You don't have to be a member to make a purchase!

Summertime Cuties!!!

I wanted to share with you what some of my customer's have been making.  They have been  busy little bees getting ready for Spring and Summer!

Emily of Sewalamode made this gorgeous sundress (well really she made two, for a set of twins!).  It just screams summertime!  Made with my Just Dreamy fabrics from Riley Blake.

Bethany Anderson made these twirly skirts for her 2 daughters, ages 6 and 10 months old.  She says the 6 year old wants to wear it all the time and can't quit twirling when she has it on.  I'll bet the little one will figure out how to twirl really soon too!  So cute!  She used the Pink Fig Patchwork Skirt Pattern from my shop.

Cassie made this Easter dress for her daughter with my Girly Girl fabrics.  Isn't her daughter a doll?  You can find Cassie on facebook at Cupcakie Cutie.  And Cassie's mom took the adorable photo.  Find her on facebook at Memories by Marcie.

The fat quarter Deal of the Week is up and ready for you at only $1.25!!

I've got lots of new fabrics to list, and will be having another SALE shortly in the shop!

Draculas and Ghosts and Mummies! Oh My!

Riley Blake just keeps coming up with the cutest fabrics ever!  Who would think that you could use the word *cute* to describe Halloween?  Obviously Riley Blake does with it's "Boo To You!"  Nothing scary about them either!  Only cuteness!  Don't tell that to the black cat though that thinks he's all that and a bag of trick or treat candy!

Even their prices won't scare you off!   For their grand intro to the shop they will be only $6.95.  But hurry, this pricing will last one week only!

Wouldn't they make adorable pillowcases, trick or treat bags, or how about a patchwork skirt for your little one to twirl around in?  So go get them now, before they put their scary face on!

LOVE Me a SALE!!!

Gotta love everything Amy!  I mean who in the fabric/sewing world hasn't heard of Amy Butler?  Her stuff is always absolutely gorgeous. Her latest line she has endearingly named "LOVE."  One thing I particularly love about Amy's fabrics are the way you can put her fabrics together and they always seem to *go*.  There's such a flow to them.  Even from one collection to another.  Don't ask me how she manages to accomplish it, but she does!

From now until Friday the 14th, Amy's LOVE fabric will be on SALE for only $6.95 a yard!  So head over to the shop now and fall into some LOVE!

Here's some inspiration from Amy.  Isn't this skirt beautiful?

These will go fast, so get to Fabrics I Love now!

Customer Inspirations!!

I have the BEST and most talented customers!!  And to prove it, here are pictures from just a few!

A Sleeping Bag made by Deb from my All Star Fabric.  You can find Deb's things here:  http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/OllyG/250362807900?ref=ts

And check out what a neat idea Megan from the Blue Barn made for her nephew, also using the All Star.   I think this is one of the best ideas I've seen in a while.  She made a onsie for each month of his first year of life.  Then his picture can be taken in it documenting his growth!  Is that not a great idea?

And I just love what Robin did with the Girly Girl Fabrics from Art Gallery!  I just love ruffles, and purples!  It's so hard to find really cute fabrics in purples, but this one is it!  I have just a little left of this in the shop!

I loved being a little girl.  My sister and I would play for hours on end.  We loved to play school or church, but our favorite was playing house.  I can still remember the Christmas we got a little table and chairs and a set of dishes.  That same Christmas my dad made us a little kitchen cabinet for the dishes.  Santa brought both of us dolls.  We would play for hours with our dolls and kitchen set.

Unfortunately these days, it seems little girls are forced to grow up way too quickly.  So, when my customer Julie sent me these pictures of her creations with the Just Dreamy fabrics, it was like I was whisked back in time to my "Playing House" days!  Just look at what she made for her little girl!!  This is the before pic.

Now check out the after!

And if this weren't enough, look what she painted to tie it all together.

The flowers match the fabric exactly!  In fact, when she first showed this to me, I thought where did she get that?  It matches perfectly!

Doesn't this pic take you back in time to your childhood!

Why don't you get some of Riley Blake's Just Dreamy fabric

from my shop and encourage your little girl to stay a little girl for as long as possible!!

Thanks Julie for the trip back in time, and you have one lucky little girl!

Pink Fig's Patchwork Skirt and T-shirt

I love to share what my customer's create.  I draw such inspiration and even get a little push to get back to sewing when I see other's cute, cute creations!  Like this patchwork skirt made by a very good sewing friend of mine!  And even though she lives in CO and I live in OK, I think sewing bonds us together in a way that I can't explain!  I know all you sewing sisters will understand.  But try to explain that to those that don't sew, and you get the deer in the headlight look!  Here is her skirt!

I'll bet the little girl she made this for is still twirling!!  Love it!  She made it with this Pink Fig Pattern the Patchwork Skirt and T-Shirt

Want to make one for your little girl or someone you know?  Check it out at Fabrics I Love, and while your there check out the Fat Quarter Deal of the Week for only $1.25!  This week's is the cute Just Dreamy Large Cream floral by Riley Blake.

Thanks for sharing Carla!  And for the rest of my customer's, email your pics to post!  Who knows who you might inspire?
